Watch CME/CE-certified video of an expert faculty panel discussing how recent advances in the PI class may affect treatment decisions in patients with varying levels of antiretroviral experience.
Learning Objectives
Upon completion of this activity, participants should be able to:
- Summarize the findings from recent studies of PI-containing regimens in HIV-infected patients across the treatment spectrum
- Recount considerations that influence the choice between available PIs in treatment-naive patients, including efficacy, tolerability, and the consequences of virologic failure
- Discuss the evidence-based choice of a new PI in moderately treatment–experienced patients
- Describe the role of PIs in combination with other active agents, including novel antiretrovirals, when constructing new regimens for extensively pretreated patients
